A 5-6 year old child is already learning how to use everyday language to describe what is happening around them. They are learning how to ask the question "How long?" and to use language, including; "before, after, today, morning and weekend". Children of this age know the order of the days of the week and know that the weekend differs from the rest of the week. A child of this age is learning how to put events in order of time for example, "I brush my teeth before I go to bed at night".
A really great way to support this stage of your child’s development is to buy a calendar for your house. Keeping a calander on the fridge or creating one on the computer, creates a sense of ownership for your child. Get your child to write in the family activities such as dance class on Wednesday, football at school on Friday, Emma’s birthday party on Saturday morning.
